Kathryn wood, ceo and president
PMI’s President and CEO, Kathryn Wood, has decades of experience working with public and private sector organizations --- from start-ups and small businesses with just a handful of people on board to publicly-traded companies, local, provincial and federal governments, associations, and not-for-profits. The specifics of the assignments vary markedly but most draw upon Kathryn’s research and analytical skill set, her ability to see strategic opportunities, and inclination toward proactivity. She’s highly collaborative, pulls her weight, and considers knowledge transfer to/from others on the team as a key side benefit of any assignment. Kathryn has worked in all regions of Ontario, Canada as well as in Western Canada.
A committed lifelong learner, Kathryn is always ‘upping her game’ so she can bring her clients the most current information available. They frequently receive unprompted reports on business intelligence relevant to their sector --- or their business --- that she has gleaned from the many news and research sources she scans, or a book or article she has read and interpreted for their benefit. In fact, Kathryn’s view is that anyone in a leadership position in any organization must think of themselves as a lifelong learner. The world is changing quickly and last year’s information may be irrelevant tomorrow. More importantly, the ability to capitalize on emerging trends or marketplace developments is key to any organization’s success. The three most important words in Kathryn’s vocabulary these days are: mindset, differentiation, and resilience.
Her formal education includes two undergraduate degrees --- one in economics and business, and another in environmental science. She has also taken specialized training in energy conservation, renewable energy (solar and wind), and a host of other business topics. Early in her career, Kathryn was a member of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) and the Professional Marketing Research Society (PMRS). Her greatest learning though, has come from growing up in a family business, starting two small service businesses and advising others, and working on several technology development endeavours. She has been active in her communities of interest --- from Junior Achievement and the Sunnyside Children’s Foundation to serving as President of the national Board of Directors of the Queen’s University Alumni Association and on the Board of Trustees.
